Navigational Bronchoscopy – Super D

  • GPS-like technology provides real-time guidance to ‘ navigate’ to a peripheral (deep in the lung tissue) smaller target.
  • A steerable, flexible instrument is used.
  • Unlike traditional bronchoscopy, which has limitations in reaching certain areas, navigational bronchoscopy enhances accuracy.
  • ‘Super D’  name comes from superDimension, trademarked pioneer navigational technology currently provided by Medtronic. A more recent advance is ‘robotic- assisted’ bronchoscopy, which further increases accuracy
  • This procedure requires special planning with a dedicated Chest CT and is performed under general anesthesia
